Amazon eyes 5,105-satellite constellation to power iPhone satellite features

Amazon is proposing a 5,105-satellite low-Earth orbit constellation using Globalstar spectrum to deliver voice, data, messaging, and emergency services to iPhone devices and other compatible mobiles, aiming to improve and expand Apple’s satellite features. The plan would operate alongside Apple’s Globalstar-powered services through Amazon Leo, with five orbital shells targeting populated regions and polar areas; FCC approval is pending, and deployment is slated to begin in 2028 after the Globalstar merger closes in 2027.
