Meta slapped with $1.3bn fine for EU-US data transfer.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has been fined a record $1.3bn by the Irish Data Protection Commission for transferring EU user data to the US. The European Data Protection Board ordered the fine, which Meta plans to appeal. The company called the ruling "flawed, unjustified and sets a dangerous precedent for countless other companies". This is the largest fine imposed under the General Data Protection Regulation. It is the third fine imposed on Meta so far this year in the EU and the fourth in six months.
