A couple's vow renewal celebration in Guatemala was disrupted when an Uber charge for nearly $30,000 left them without money. The charge, which was supposed to be ₡30,000 Costa Rican Colones (equivalent to a little over $55), was processed as $30,000. The couple had to postpone their celebration and spent their vacation pinching pennies. Despite contacting Uber and their bank, it took four days for the charge to be reversed. Uber blamed a bank error and stated that the refund processing time depends on each bank's policies. The couple advises using a credit card instead of a debit card for international travel and has decided not to use Uber again.
