Rabbit Disease Ravages Whidbey Island's Bunny Population

Rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHDV2) is rapidly spreading and decimating the bunny population in Langley, Whidbey Island. The highly contagious and fatal virus has caused the death of hundreds of feral domestic rabbits within a week. The outbreak has prompted a quarantine at the fairgrounds and veterinarians are urging pet owners to vaccinate their rabbits. The virus, which causes internal bleeding and has a mortality rate of around 98%, can be spread by infected animals, clothing, and shoes, making it a serious concern for the community. Efforts are being made to protect domestic bunnies and prevent further spread of the disease.
