A study from Cornell University has identified two antimicrobial peptides in tomatoes that can kill off Salmonella Typhi, the bacteria responsible for typhoid fever. The peptides were found to rupture the bacterial cell membranes within 45 minutes, offering potential in combating antibiotic-resistant strains.
