Blood Proteins Predict Dementia 15 Years in Advance

A study of frozen blood samples has identified proteins that may predict various forms of dementia more than 10 years before diagnosis, potentially accelerating the development of new treatments. The research, conducted by teams from the U.K. and China, analyzed 52,645 blood samples and found 1,463 proteins associated with dementia, with higher levels of certain proteins indicating a greater likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, or dementia from any cause. The study suggests the potential for developing a blood test to predict dementia risk, particularly in aging populations, although further validation is needed.
