Research organizations are also focusing on using gene editing to combat malaria-transmitting mosquitoes, with hopes of drastically reducing disease spread. Despite public resistance and environmental concerns, these technologies are being tested for safety and effectiveness, and may become available commercially in the U.S. within the next two years.
