Jamaica's Health Ministry Launches Dengue Fever Prevention Campaign

Jamaica has declared an outbreak of dengue fever, with at least 565 suspected and confirmed cases. The dominant strain is Dengue Type 2, and while there have been no dengue-related deaths classified at this time, six deaths are being investigated. Health officials have deployed temporary and permanent workers for vector control, and the public is urged to take preventive measures such as monitoring water storage containers, wearing protective clothing, and using mosquito repellent. Dengue viruses are spread through the bite of infected Aedes species mosquitoes, and severe cases can result in shock, internal bleeding, and death.
