Link between marijuana and schizophrenia in young men

A study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse found that 30% of schizophrenia cases in men aged 21 to 30 are linked to cannabis addiction. Overall, the analysis of 6 million people found that 15% of diagnoses in men and 4% in women could be attributed to the drug. Smoking weed may cause schizophrenia by interfering with the development of young brains, and as access to potent cannabis products continues to expand, it is crucial to expand prevention, screening, and treatment for people who may experience mental illnesses associated with cannabis use.
