Link Between Sugary Drinks and Fatal Liver Disease Revealed

A new study conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston has found a link between the consumption of sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened beverages and an increased risk of death from chronic liver disease and liver cancer. The study, which included nearly 100,000 postmenopausal women, revealed that those who consumed one or more sugar-sweetened beverages daily had an 85% higher risk of liver cancer and a 68% higher risk of chronic liver disease mortality compared to those who consumed fewer than three sugar-sweetened beverages per month. While the study is observational and cannot establish causality, it highlights the need for further research to validate these findings and understand the mechanisms behind the increased risk.
