Long COVID and Influenza: Similar Impairments and Severity Levels

A study conducted by the Department of Health in Queensland has found that people suffering from long COVID may experience symptoms similar to those of influenza. The study involved a group of almost 2200 adults with COVID and 950 with influenza, and found that 21% of those with Omicron reported ongoing symptoms at 12 weeks, compared to 23% of those with influenza. The study also found that 4% of both groups reported moderate to severe functional limitations. The study has not yet been peer-reviewed or publicly released, but has been accepted by the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
