Millions of Americans, including Medicare patients, are not being diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, according to research from the University of Southern California. The study found that most general physicians vastly under-diagnose cognitive decline, with doctors and practices failing to diagnose about 92% of expected cases. This diagnostic gap is concerning as mild cognitive impairment is often the first stage of more serious neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease.
