"Advancements in Epilepsy Surgery: A Promising Solution for Seizure Control"

A team of medical professionals in Trinidad and Tobago has been performing life-altering surgeries for patients with multi-drug resistant epilepsy since 2018. Prior to this, epileptic patients in the country were solely treated with medications, often without access to care abroad. The surgical options now offered have provided an improved quality of life for qualifying patients. The team has performed various surgical procedures, including temporal lobectomy and corpus callosotomy, resulting in the cessation of seizures and improved cognitive skills. They have also utilized vagal nerve stimulation to reduce seizure activity. While limitations still exist, the progress made has given epileptic patients in Trinidad and Tobago more options for treatment and a chance to live a better quality of life.
