Researchers have identified five clusters of brain activity associated with attention and conscious perception, challenging the notion that the two functions operate independently. The study focused on patients with hemispatial neglect, a condition where stroke patients fail to acknowledge the left side of their visual field due to attention issues, not visual impairments. Using intracerebral electrophysiological recordings, the researchers found that manipulating attention affected participants' ability to consciously perceive stimuli.
