Unraveling the Mysteries of Brain Inflammation

Researchers have discovered that the TSPO protein, commonly used in medical imaging to locate and measure brain inflammation, does not necessarily indicate overactivation of inflammatory cells. While a high density of TSPO protein corresponds to a high density of microglia, it does not signify their overactivation. This finding challenges previous interpretations and suggests the need for re-evaluating past research. The study also identifies two new markers, LCP2 and TFEC proteins, which could lead to innovative approaches in medical imaging for understanding neuroinflammation.
