B(A) Blood Type: A Rare Hybrid Variant Found in Just Three People

Scientists identified a new hybrid blood type called B(A), found in three individuals in Thailand, where red cells show mostly B antigens but also small amounts of A antigens due to novel mutations in the ABO gene on chromosome 9; this challenges the classic ABO classification and suggests more undiscovered blood-type variants may exist.
