US humanitarian worker in the DRC tests positive for Bundibugyo Ebola

A US citizen working for a humanitarian group in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, according to the CDC. The agency is coordinating with the patient’s employer and partners to identify high-risk contacts and prevent further transmission. The DRC outbreak has climbed to about 1,830 confirmed cases with 648 deaths, while the risk to the US public and travelers remains very low and no cases have been reported in the United States.
