Climate Activists Arrested for Storming Kevin McCarthy's Office in Protest of Government Shutdown

Eighteen climate activists from the Sunrise Movement were arrested after protesting in the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, demanding that he avert a government shutdown by supporting bridge funding for FEMA. The activists held signs criticizing the GOP and urging climate action. With the US already experiencing a high number of billion-dollar disasters and an upcoming harsh hurricane season, a government shutdown could hinder FEMA's ability to provide necessary aid. The Sunrise Movement is also calling for no cuts to Inflation Reduction Act programs and the reinstatement of the child tax credit.
