"Additional Arrests Made in Deadly Texas Human Smuggling Case"

Four more men from Mexico have been arrested in connection with a human smuggling operation that resulted in the deaths of 53 people near San Antonio, Texas, last year. The arrests bring the total number of people charged in the case to six. The men were part of a smuggling organization that brought individuals from Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico into the United States. The victims were found dead in and around an abandoned tractor-trailer in June 2022, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees and no working air conditioning. The four men arrested this week face charges of conspiracy to transport and transportation of migrants illegally resulting in death and serious injury, with a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.
