Alaska Man Convicted of Murdering Two Native Women, Filming the Crime

Brian Steven Smith, a 52-year-old man from South Africa, was found guilty of first-degree murder for the deaths of two Alaska Native women, Kathleen Henry and Veronica Abouchuk, and convicted on 14 counts including sexual assault and misconduct with a corpse. Smith filmed himself torturing and killing Henry, and audio from the clips was heard during the trial. He faces a mandatory 99-year sentence for Henry's killing and 30 to 99 years for Abouchuk's slaying. Smith's wife plans to remain married to him and visit him in prison, stating that he had "another life." Sentencing is scheduled for July.
