Ex-FedEx driver receives death penalty for killing 7-year-old Athena Strand in Texas

A Fort Worth jury sentenced former FedEx driver Tanner Horner to death after he pleaded guilty to capital murder in the 2022 killing of 7-year-old Athena Strand in Paradise, Texas. The punishment followed a month of testimony and audio/video from inside Horner’s delivery van that captured Athena’s final moments. Investigators say she died from blunt-force injuries with suffocation and strangulation; the case was moved to Fort Worth to ensure a fair trial. Horner was found to remain a continuing threat to society.
