Florida to Execute Convicted Killer of Two Panhandle Women

Michael Duane Zack III, convicted in the 1996 slayings of two women during a crime spree in Florida, is set to be executed after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal. Zack's argument that his Fetal Alcohol Syndrome made him ineligible for the death penalty was rejected by the Florida Supreme Court and the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal. His execution by lethal injection is scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Zack's crimes included beating, stabbing, and raping his victims, and his execution would be the sixth in Florida since the start of 2023.
