Multiple Guilty Pleas in Child Homicide Cases

Elizabeth Archibeque, an Arizona mother, has pleaded guilty to murder and child abuse charges after her 6-year-old son, Deshaun Martinez, died of starvation in March 2020. Archibeque, who will be sentenced later this summer, had locked Deshaun in a closet and denied him food. She will not be eligible for probation, and if sentenced to life in prison, she will not be eligible for any kind of parole or work release. Deshaun's father and grandmother are also charged in the case and are being tried separately.
