The Alarming Reality of Pentagon Leaks and Espionage Charges.

Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, has been charged with "unauthorised retention and transmission of national defense information" and "unauthorised removal and retention of classified documents or material" for allegedly leaking sensitive US defence documents to an online gaming chatroom. The documents included detailed information about the war in Ukraine and US intelligence regarding other allies and adversaries across the globe. Teixeira had "top secret" clearance and was granted "sensitive compartmented access" to other classified US government programmes. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 15 years' imprisonment and stem, in part, from the Espionage Act.
