US woman caught with gold-plated gun in luggage at Sydney airport

A 28-year-old US woman was arrested in Sydney after a 24-carat gold-plated gun was found in her luggage. The woman did not have a permit for the firearm and could face up to 10 years in jail. The Australian Border Force said that sophisticated detection technology had helped stop a dangerous weapon from entering the country. The woman was charged and appeared before the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday, where she received bail. Australia has some of the most comprehensive firearm laws in the world, while a record number of firearms were confiscated from US airport passengers in 2022.
