Virginia Mom Indicted for Child Neglect in Connection with 6-Year-Old Son's Shooting of Teacher

The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot and seriously wounded his first-grade teacher in Virginia has been indicted on charges of felony child neglect and misdemeanor recklessly leaving a loaded firearm as to endanger a child. The boy will not be charged. The teacher has filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school for gross negligence, alleging that they ignored multiple warnings that the boy was in a "violent mood" and had a gun. The superintendent was fired and the school assistant principal resigned in the wake of the shooting. A special grand jury has been petitioned to investigate whether any security issues may have contributed to the shooting.
