China's Growing Military Power: A Closer Look at Nuclear Arms and Naval Modernization

The Pentagon's annual report on China's military highlights that China has over 500 operational nuclear warheads and is projected to have over 1,000 warheads by 2030. China has completed the construction of three new silo fields with at least 300 new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) silos and may be exploring conventionally armed intercontinental-range missile systems. China is expanding its global military footprint and has considered having military logistics facilities in several countries. China's navy, already the world's largest, is expected to grow to 395 ships by 2025 and 435 ships by 2030. The report also mentions an instance where China requested U.S. assistance in evacuating Chinese diplomats from Sudan.
