"Hope Shines: Uvalde Welcomes New School Amidst Darkness"

The community of Uvalde, Texas, broke ground on a new elementary school to replace Robb Elementary, the site of a mass shooting that took the lives of 19 fourth graders and two teachers. The new school, set to open in 2025, aims to be a symbol of moving forward and will incorporate enhanced security measures, including restricted access, fewer exterior doors, and multiple levels of security. The 120,000 square-foot campus will also feature two playgrounds, including one for children with special needs, an air-conditioned gym, and a large outdoor courtyard. The project is being funded by the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation, which has raised about 75% of the $60 million needed for construction.
