House Republicans Pass Controversial Energy Bill Before Recess

House Republicans are set to pass a massive energy bill that would increase domestic production of oil, natural gas, and coal, ease permitting restrictions, and boost production of critical minerals. The GOP bill, called the "Lower Energy Costs Act," seeks to undo virtually all of President Biden's climate change agenda. Democrats call it a giveaway to big oil companies and a thinly disguised effort to reward energy producers that have contributed millions of dollars to GOP campaigns. Biden has threatened to veto the bill if it reaches his desk, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called it "dead on arrival" in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
