"Endangered Fin Whale Found Washed Up on Oregon Beach, Entangled and Emaciated"

A 46-foot-long endangered fin whale was found washed up on an Oregon beach, emaciated and entangled with wounds from killer whales. The necropsy revealed that the subadult male whale was thin and likely died from an underlying illness, with fresh entanglement and superficial wounds from killer whales. With roughly 11,000 fin whales in the Pacific Northwest, entanglements and vessel strikes pose significant threats to the population. NOAA is awaiting further information from the pathology report to determine the cause of the whale's death.
