Deaths in Jail: Lack of Medication and Negligence

Dexter Barry, a 54-year-old heart transplant recipient, died after not receiving any doses of an essential medication while he was in custody at a Florida jail. Barry had repeatedly informed the arresting officer about his transplant and the essential anti-rejection medication he needed for it. Records show that Barry never received the drug that protected his heart while in jail. He spent days in jail without the medication he needed to survive before he bonded out. His family plans to file a lawsuit.
