"Providence Nurses Strike in Portland and Seaside"

Over 1,800 nurses from Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence Seaside, and a home health and hospice unit run by the Providence Health System have gone on strike in Oregon due to disagreements over productivity targets, pay inequity, and wages. Negotiations between the nurses, represented by the Oregon Nurses Association, and Providence broke down in early June. Providence has hired temporary nurses to fill in while staff nurses are on strike this week, and the strike is expected to last five days. The affected hospitals will continue to accept emergency patients.
