Supreme Court Protects Civil Rights in Nursing Home Lawsuits

The US Supreme Court has ruled that nursing home residents and Americans who rely on federal spending programs like Medicaid can sue when their rights are violated, in a major victory for a family that filed a lawsuit over allegations of poor treatment in a Marion County-owned nursing home. The court also rejected Health & Hospital's argument that people can't rely on a Civil Rights-era law to sue government entities that violate the terms of federal spending programs like Medicaid.
