"Lost 8-year-old survives in Michigan forest by eating snow and sheltering under log"

An 8-year-old boy who got lost in Michigan's Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park survived by eating clean snow and covering himself with leaves for warmth. Nante Niemi, 8, of Hurley, Wis., was found safe Monday afternoon about two miles from his family's campsite after being missing for about 48 hours. He had been collecting firewood with a group when he got lost on his way back to the campsite. He was wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and boots, and had no gear or food with him. He stayed warm and safe by hiding under a log and covering up with branches and leaves. He ate clean snow to stay hydrated.
