Congress to Hear Testimony on Russia's War Crimes in Ukraine

Ukrainians shared their stories of torture and war crimes committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing. Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin testified that Russian forces have committed 80,840 war crimes and crimes of aggression since invading Ukraine in February 2022, including the abduction of nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children. Republican support for Ukraine has waned, but a majority of Americans continue to back U.S. military aid and humanitarian assistance. The Justice Department is seeking to expand tools to punish Russians accused of murdering Ukrainian civilians and to widen the list of assets the U.S. can liquidate and transfer to Ukraine to help repair its damaged infrastructure.
