Sudanese Paramilitary Leader Faces Treasury Sanctions

The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), for his involvement in acts of violence and human rights abuses, including the massacre of civilians, ethnic killings, and sexual violence. Both the RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have failed to implement a ceasefire since April 2023, with the RSF and allied militias being accused of extensive human rights abuses in Darfur and other areas. The US urges an end to the conflict and violence, expressing solidarity with the people of Sudan and a commitment to promoting accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence in conflict.
