Tensions rise as China and Taiwan exchange warnings.

Taiwan's foreign minister, Joseph Wu, has warned of a possible conflict with China in 2027, as US intelligence believes that China's leader, Xi Jinping, has ordered the country's military to be ready by then to annex Taiwan. Wu emphasized the risks to the UK posed by a conflict, saying that an attack on Taiwan would affect the UK "in a very serious manner". Wu drew an analogy between China and Russia, saying the world had failed to take Russia's aggressive postures seriously in the past.
