California's Assault Weapons Ban Overturned Again by Federal Judge

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has filed an appeal to overturn a district court decision that invalidated California's assault weapons ban, the Assault Weapons Control Act. The ban remains in effect while the appeal is pending. Bonta argues that assault weapons have no place on California's streets and vows to protect the safety of communities while respecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. The same district court also recently invalidated California's large-capacity magazine ban, but Bonta has appealed that decision as well and secured a court order to keep the ban in effect pending appeal. Gun violence remains a growing threat to public safety, and California ranks as the top state for gun safety with a lower gun death rate than the national average.
