The town of Windsor, Virginia, has settled a lawsuit brought by the state's attorney general over a controversial traffic stop of a Black and Latino Army officer in 2020. Under the settlement, the police force will obtain accreditation, subject its officers to more scrutiny, and have use-of-force complaints reviewed by a state prosecutor and the attorney general's office. The town did not admit wrongdoing, but agreed to enhance training and improve policies. The lawsuit alleged discrimination against Black people and violation of civil rights. The video of the traffic stop, which showed the officer drawing guns and pepper-spraying the officer, went viral. The officer sued for $1 million but was awarded less than $4,000.
