Supreme Court to Decide on West Virginia's Transgender Sports Ban

West Virginia has asked the Supreme Court to allow it to enforce a 2021 law that only allows those whose reproductive biology and genetics were classified as female at birth to play on girls’ teams. The law is on hold while an appeals court reviews its constitutionality. The case involves a 12-year-old transgender girl named Becky who wants to play on the girls' team. Becky and her mother say the West Virginia law violates the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment guarantee of equal protection, as well as the Title IX civil rights law barring sex-based discrimination in education.
