Trump Requests Retrial in E. Jean Carroll Lawsuit

Donald Trump's lawyers have requested a new trial or a reduction in damages in the E. Jean Carroll case, in which he was found liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer. Trump's lawyers argued that the $5 million jury verdict was "grossly excessive" and that the $2 million awarded for battery was inflated since the jurors did not find by a "preponderance of the evidence" that Trump had raped Carroll. Carroll's attorney called Trump's arguments "frivolous," and the former president has also filed a notice of appeal in the case.
