Ohio files lawsuit against Norfolk Southern over East Palestine train derailment.

Ohio is suing Norfolk Southern over the train derailment that caused environmental damage and forced half of the residents of East Palestine to evacuate. The lawsuit seeks to make the railroad pay for cleanup costs, groundwater and soil monitoring, economic losses, and reimburse first responders and state agencies for their costs. The state is also seeking compensation for long-term health and economic harm. Norfolk Southern has promised more than $20 million so far to help the Ohio community recover while also announcing several voluntary safety upgrades.
