Mobile's Annexation Vote: Transforming the City's Landscape and Ranking

Mobile, Alabama, has become the second-largest city in the state after a successful annexation vote, surpassing Birmingham in population for the first time in 123 years. The vote resulted in almost 26,000 new residents being annexed into Mobile, pushing the city's population to 204,689. The only area to vote against annexation was the Airport Boulevard corridor. The annexation will bring changes such as emergency medical services, garbage and trash services, and increased police patrols to the newly annexed areas.
