Athens police: no rape evidence in downtown UGA case; fraud arrests announced

Athens-Clarke County police say there is no evidence that a UGA student was raped in downtown Athens after a thorough investigation. The student reported losing consciousness on Aug. 20 and waking near City Hall stairs; detectives also found fraudulent financial activity involving the victim, leading to Timothy Evans being charged with Financial Transaction Card Theft and Financial Transaction Card Fraud, and the arrest of Dennie Smith, 40, of Athens, on the same charges.
