U.S. Navy evacuates Americans from Sudan amidst crisis.

The US Navy has sent two nontraditional ship classes, the Spearhead-class Expeditionary Fast Transport USNS Brunswick and the Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary sea base USS Lewis B. Puller, to aid in the evacuation of people from Sudan. These ships are fulfilling missions typically performed by other US Navy assets like amphibious warships at a time when the fleet is balancing operations between the Indo-Pacific, Mediterranean, and the Middle East. The Marine Corps has highlighted the lack of available and ready amphibious warships to deploy and operate across the globe, which has led to the use of these nontraditional ships.
