Kilauea Volcano Erupts on Hawaii's Big Island, Putting on Spectacular Show

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, home of the goddess Pele, has erupted again, with lava flowing through the Halema'uma'u crater. The US Geological Survey has said that the eruption is confined to the crater and there is no indication that populated areas are threatened. However, residents have been warned to stay indoors or wear face masks due to high levels of volcanic gas, which can cause breathing problems and irritate eyes. The biggest concern is sulfur dioxide, which contributes to volcanic smog, known as vog, and can create a visible haze.
