Coastal Storm Causes Record Flooding and Power Outages in Charleston and Grand Strand

Charleston experienced its highest non-tropical tide on record, reaching 9.62 feet, due to heavy rains from a passing Nor'easter colliding with high tides. The floodwaters closed roads, trapped cars, and caused the medical district and parts of the peninsula to be submerged. Dozens of roads were closed, and residents were urged not to drive through flooded waters. The heavy rainfall is expected to taper off, but strong winds may cause downed trees and power outages. Emergency responders were busy clearing drains and rescuing people trapped in flooded buildings.
