"Alabama House Advances Comprehensive Gaming Legislation"

The Alabama House of Representatives passed a proposed constitutional amendment and companion bill to allow a lottery, casinos, and legal sports betting in the state. The amendment, which will need approval by voters, was approved by a vote of 70-32, with 42 Republicans and all 28 Democrats voting yes. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Chris Blackshear, aims to create a uniform regulatory framework and establish an Alabama Gaming Commission to license up to seven casinos. If approved by the Senate, the plan would be on the ballot in November. Governor Kay Ivey supported the bills, emphasizing the importance of regulated, limited forms of gaming and the opportunity for Alabamians to have their say.
