Backlash in California as convicted election denier declines role overseeing a county election

Tina Peters, a convicted election tamperer who served prison time in Colorado and was released early, declined Shasta County’s offer to hire her as a consultant to oversee the November election amid condemnation from Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats who argued a felon involved in election denial should not work in California elections. Peters had been connected to a plan by the county registrar to help supervise the election, but she said she’s traveling the country to secure elections, and Newsom publicly pushed back on the idea.
