California moves to block Shasta County Measure B’s election overhaul
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber filed a lawsuit in the Third District Court of Appeal to block Shasta County’s Measure B, which was approved 56% in the June primary and would require voter ID, largely end mail-in voting, run a one-day election, disconnect county rolls from state oversight, and rely on hand counts—claims the state says are unlawful and beyond local authority even for a charter county. The suit follows prior challenges and the county board is set to discuss litigation at its June 16 meeting.
